By Applied Plastics on June 28, 2015

Teflon® coated stainless steel or nitinol anti-stick forming mandrels that can be supplied cut-to-length for fuse welding and tipping operations are available from Applied Plastics Co., Inc. of Norwood, Massachusetts.
Applied Plastics’ PTFE Natural® Extrusion Mandrels for producing small diameter catheter tubing allow over 25% elongation without flaking and failure. Featuring a 0.5 dynamic coefficient of friction, this anti-stick extrusion, forming and tipping mandrel provides a smooth, slippery surface to permit faster production and help assure optimum catheter tubing I.D. quality.
Capable of withstanding up to 315°C (600°F) service and chemically inert, Applied Plastics’ PTFE Natural® Extrusion Mandrels can be supplied precut in 0.010” to 0.070” dia. sizes with ±.0003” tolerance, depending upon size. Grit-blasted using a proprietary process before applying the release coating assures the coating will not flake or crack, claims the firm.
Applied Plastics’ PTFE Natural® Extrusion Mandrels are priced according to size and quantity. Samples and quotations are available upon request.
