From Humble Beginnings to Industry Leadership
Founded by Frank Ring in 1953, Applied Plastics evolved from a family-owned small business to an industry leader. Frank’s son, Dave, spent many afternoons and summers working alongside his dad before officially joining the company in 1977.
The company began by offering coatings for a wide range of industrial purposes and was a pioneer in electrostatically applied powder coatings. By listening to their customers, they identified a growing need for lubricious PTFE coatings for medical OEMs. This focus, which began over 30 years ago, led them to specialize in the high-performance coating solutions they are known for today.

To meet this new demand, Applied Plastics developed custom, state-of-the-art equipment to create high-quality components with a repeatable process. They partner with design engineers to ensure products meet the strict performance requirements of life-saving devices.
While now an industry leader, the company maintains a family-like culture with long-term employees. Today, under the leadership of CEO Thomas Barrett and Executive Chairman Dave Ring, Applied Plastics is the leading supplier of PTFE coated products for advanced catheter systems.
